So the Vic is going to be in a movie. A scene they want to shoot has the protagonist on top of the car. Not jumping around, they assure me, but standing or kneeling up there. Question: How likely is the roof to collapse in and get creased?

(For this production, the graffiti on the fender is a selling point...)

Depends on how fat the dude is. It won’t collapse (seriously?) but there’s a decent chance of a dent, which would prob be removable fairly easily.

It’s quite likely there will be some dent age. I would negotiate for more money.

Negotiate with them to install a proper roll cage. Win win for both of you

Is there any kind of guarantee to pay out damages? I'd take good pictures beforehand

I might also try and brace it a bit from beneath.

I’d say there’s no chance they won’t do some damage to your roof. But very little they’ll do more than cosmetic damage without jumping unless they are super fat.

So it’s your opinion that they’ll dent the roof, but not severely unless they’re jumping around? That’s what I would’ve thought. I’m also thinking about bracing it from within with some 2x2 and some 4-inch or 6-inch plywood squares.

No offense but why bother? It’ll add to the war rig aesthetic you’ve got going on.

Fair enough, but I’d rather get less of that than more. I’m designing a cool paint job for it though...

If it’s a student or independent production it should probably be fine if the Panther People (sweet name) think it is.

Otherwise they will probably drill a hole through the windshield and rattle can the interior white because reasons

It’s a beaten up Crown Vic...they WILL beat it up some more. The cast and most of the crew will have preconceived notions about it.

So make it financially worth your while.

You’re definitely getting a dent and maybe some scratches. I’d negotiate for more money (unless the money you’re getting is already good) or just know you’ll have to pop the dent when you get it back.

Someone wanted to rent my ‘84 Town Car for a movie that was filming on the Eastern Shore a few years ago, but I told them if they wanted it , they could buy it, and that ended the conversation. So, I’m not a good one to ask.

But, I have often heard it said that you should never lend or rent a car to a film/TV production that you’re not 100% OK getting back with at least some damage.

Its a Vic. Just hit the roof from the inside and it will be like new

Okay nobody’s actually answered you.

I’ve sat on the hood, stood on the hood, sat on the trunk, and stood (gingerly) on the trunk - no damage. It’ll flex, though.

I’ve *seen* people stand on the roof and there isn’t any apparent damage after they got down.

So - it’ll be fine.

The roof on these is not exceptionally rigid, it will be oil-canning all over while they’re on it. Being peelformance white, I’d expect some paint cracking as a result of the flex; permanent dents are possible but unlikely if they’re fairly careful with it. Most people aren’t careful with things though.

I used the hood and decklid of mine as a table time to time, never did a whole lot on the roof though. A miter saw fits nicely on the back when you need somewhere to cut that board in the driveway.

The P71s have extra bracing in the roof.
